Welcome to Plymouth Youth Music Service, where young people can discover the joy of music.  Our music lessons in schools and communities help young people explore a diverse range of genres, build confidence and grow their creativity in fun and supportive environments. PYMS is a major partner of the Devon Music Education Hub, which supports much of our work in Plymouth schools.

Our Vision

Plymouth Youth Music Service (PYMS) has been a cornerstone of Plymouth’s music education for over 20 years. As the lead partner for the Devon Music Education Hub, we are supported through a combination of hub and national initiatives. Our mission is to make music learning accessible, inspiring, and rewarding, empowering young people through creativity and performance.

We work closely with schools  and community partners to nurture musical development at every level, from beginners to advanced students. Our experienced tutors bring both expertise and passion, delivering high-quality tuition in instruments, voice, ensembles, and creative music-making throughout the academic year.

At PYMS, we believe every child and young person should have the opportunity to sing, play, and create music together. We are committed to helping young people explore their talents, progress in their musical journey, perform with confidence, and, for some, even pursue professional careers in music and the creative industries.

Our Mission

We work closely with schools, music educators, and a wide range of local, regional, and national partners to provide a music education offer that is inclusive, engaging, and relevant to all young people in Plymouth.

What We Do

Plymouth Youth Music Service is part of the national network of Music Education Hubs, supported by public funding from the Department for Education and Arts Council England. Our role is to deliver high-quality music education in line with the National Plan for Music Education, supporting schools and young people across the city to access inspiring musical opportunities. PYMS is led by Plymouth City Council, ensuring our programmes are integrated with wider educational and cultural provision.
